    THOUGHT LEADERS

    Ferg McQuail, Executive Producer, Director & Writer 

    Ferg is known as one of the first people to join LinkedIn. He’s a tenacious networker and the head of one of the largest corporate video alliances in Irvine, CA. Here at GSO, he provides insight into “the business side” of the business, as well as the creative side. His unique perspective on content creation has landed him several invitations to the TEDx Talks. 

     

    Beaver Quags, Jr., Director & Cameraman 

    “Beav” hails from The Vancouver City College Film School where he received many accolades from his superiors before leaving prematurely to sign with RSA in Portland. He’s a “hands-on” creative with a passion for employing the very latest gear. His work on SmithKlineGlaxo’s “Heart Palpitations” Video was recognized by Alternative Rentals in Hollywood as the very first rental of a RED camera in 2008.

     

    Carla Benz, Producer 

    After successfully selling her Barstow, CA Subway franchise in 1994, Carla went back to high school to finish her degree and to reignite her love of television.

    8 years later, with a B.A. in Human Resources from Cal State San Bernardino, she found her passion as a PA at an award-winning production company in Riverside, CA. She quickly rose through the ranks and has produced over 500 projects since freelancing in 2004. She’s attended multiple film festivals and has been featured in many publications as “a producer to watch”. 

     

    Joseph Johns, A.C.E., Editor

    During his short stint in the Majors with the New York Mets, Joseph found his love of editing while cutting together his own scouting video in 1992. When he was cut from the team later that year, Joseph packed-up his Chevelle and set sail for Moviola classes in Hollywood, CA. After chalking-up a wall of certificates, he got his start as an assistant editor on Jersey Shore. Since then, he’s worked on over 100 broadcast reality shows for some of the top production companies in LA. Joseph is listed on the National Registry of American Editors. 

     

    David Banks, Acting Coach, SAG, AFTRA

    David began his acting career early on when he auditioned for Elf #3 in his 5th grade holiday winter performance at Whiteface Elementary in Eastern Montana. While he didn't get the role, David had acquired a voracious appetite for the theater. After a series of high level improv classes at his local community college, he realized that to fulfill his dream, he'd have to move to the Entertainment Capital of the World, Los Angeles, CA. It's here where he met casting director, Earl Phlibe. Earl immediately saw potential in David and invited him be be a part of his network at a highly discounted rate. $5000 and six weeks later, Earl had prepared David for "the big time". He began picking-up commercials and great roles in TV and film, including a role as Uncle #1 in the hit series, Felicity. His work is his passion and it's something he can't wait to share with budding minds. Today, David also teaches and is best known for his series "Masters Class: Acting Made Easy".     Ben Loggins, A.C.E., Editor 

    With a Masters from DeVry and over 10 years of experience at an assistant editor at Sony, Ben brings a fresh “Hollywood” perspective to GSO. He’s been in the edit bay with the likes of Roger Corman, John Leguizamo and Scott Bajo. His unique approach in editing the story backwards enables him to see the story in an entirely new way. His work and techniques have been featured in the special advertising section of Post Magazine. He’s a regular every year at NAB.

    Steve Buffa, 3D Animator 

    Steve is a self-taught prodigy from the suburbs of Mission Viejo, CA. While producing a music video for his punk band “Albino Skunk” in 1993, Steve began playing with Video Toaster and found a real passion for animation. Steve has free-lanced for some of the largest companies in the world and “in between gigs” can often be found in his oxygen bar in Terminal 2 at LAX.  

     

    Earl McKibbons, 3D Animator 

    Hailing from the Windy City with a B.A. in Film Studies from The Art Institute, Earl set his sights on Hollywood as an apprentice under John Knoll. While that didn’t work out, Earl’s tenacity for the craft landed him a job at Warner Brothers where he met several top animators that helped him get a start in the business. After 6 months, Earl started Eye4Media, in Orange County, CA where he quickly became the “go to” for complex medical animations. Earl’s work has been featured in OC Metro, OC Weekly and the popular trade journal, DV Magazine.
